Established in 1953 by U.S. company Economics Laboratory, Finish has a long history of industry firsts and is one of the market leaders. When J.A. Benckiser bought the Consumer products in 1987, Finish was acquired.

By the early 1950's, the growing use of molded plastic dinnerware was presenting a range of problems. Common issues like coffee staining and "spotting" brought on by slow drying offered opportunities for the right product. Learning from research into the needs of the dairy industry, Eco-Lab introduced two products that were to become major players in the household dishwashing scene: Electrasol, and a new product – Finish.
